The creation of regional Maori economic development groups led by iwi and hapu will help generate more jobs, according to the Labour Party.

The party says if a more collaborative and co-ordinated approach is adopted, with the business community and central and local government working in partnership with them, there will be more opportunities and better outcomes for Maori in the regions.
Its Maori Affairs spokesperson Nanaia Mahuta said while regional councils were identifying the contribution of Maori to their area's economy, that was not happening at a central or national level.
She said regional Maori economic development groups would establish an innovation and development fund to support Maori business growth.
Ms Mahuta said Labour would create a collaborative Maori brand as a part of its economic development strategy.
She said it was key for Maori entities and other stakeholders to work together to fully realise the value of Maori business and gain greater returns.
