NSW level Origin series

11:19 pm on 14 June 2012

New South Wales levelled this year's State of Origin rugby league series by defeating Queensland 16-12 in Sydney on Wednesday night.

The match was a must-win for the Blues, who were trying to avoid a seventh straight series defeat, the ABC reports.

Almost half an hour passed before Brett Stewart crossed for the opening try of the night.

Queensland led 6-4 at half time, but were reduced to 12 players early in the second half after Cooper Cronk was sent to the sin bin and New South Wales capitalised.

The deciding match will be played in Brisbane on 4 July.
