A cabinet minister in the Philippines and two others are missing after a light aeroplane crashed into the sea off the province of Masbate on Saturday.

A search for the Cessna and its passengers was called off late on Saturday

Interior Minister Jesse Robredo, 54, was flying to his home town in Camarines Sur province when the plane's propellor malfunctioned and the pilots decided to land at an air field on Masbate island.

Witnesses saw the plane plunging into the water, about 500 metres from the runway. One person was rescued by fishermen and taken to hospital with minor injuries.
