Police in India's Madhya Pradesh state say they have arrested six people in connection with the gang rape of a Swiss tourist.
They say the accused will be presented before a magistrate on Tueday, but they have denied earlier media reports that the suspects have confessed to their involvement in the crime.
A spokesperson says the six men are aged between 20 and 25 and belong to a local tribe. Twenty more people are being questioned in connection with the case, the BBC reports.
The arrests come as cross-party talks on harsher punishments and tougher laws for rape begin in the capital, Delhi, following the much-publicised gang rape of a student on a Delhi bus in December.
On biking holiday with husband
The Swiss woman was on a biking holiday with her husband in central Madhya Pradesh when she was attacked on Friday night local time while putting up a tent in a remote forested area near a village in Datia district. The couple were on their way to visit the Taj Mahal in Agra.
Police say her husband was tied up, she was gang-raped and the pair were also robbed of their valuables, which police say have been recovered.
Reports say the woman and her husband have left Madhya Pradesh and gone to the Swiss embassy in Delhi.
