The United States says it plans to stop most financing of coal-fired power plants overseas as part of its international strategy to combat climate change.
The US Treasury says it will only support funding for coal plants in the world's poorest countries if they have no other viable alternatives, the BBC reports.
President Barack Obama pledged in June this year to pursue more climate-friendly development policies.
