Clemency for Corby a possibility

9:45 pm on 2 November 2010

Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has left the door open to granting clemency to Australian drug smuggler Schapelle Corby.

Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard raised Corby's clemency plea with Dr Yudhoyono during official talks in the capital Jakarta.

Asked later about the case, Dr Yudhoyono did not rule out clemency, despite previously saying he would not grant clemency to drug smugglers.

However, he placed more emphasis on continuing negotiations for a prisoner transfer agreement, which could allow Corby to be brought back to Australia.
