Jury says police to blame for G20 death

8:25 pm on 4 May 2011

An inquest jury has found that a man who died on the fringes of the protests against a G-20 summit in London in 2009 was unlawfully killed by police.

At the time, police claimed Mr Tomlinson had died of natural causes.

Mr Tomlinson, who was not a protester, was pushed in the back by an officer, sending him crashing to the ground. He died shortly afterwards.

The inquest in London found the officer used excessive and unreasonable force and now could be charged with manslaughter.
