Voice of Daleks dies

British actor and singer Roy Skelton, who provided the voice of the Daleks for television's Dr Who series, has died aged 79.

The BBC reports that he suffered a stroke at his home in Brighton.

He was the voice of the Daleks from 1967 to 1988 and also voiced the Cybermen and Kroton characters in the science fiction classic.

He was best known in Britain for providing the voices for puppets George and Zippy in the popular children's programme Rainbow from the earlty 1970s until the show ended in 1992.

He had a chance to reprise the role of Zippy in 2008 for the BBC Ashes to Ashes series.
