The Australian Defence Minister says Coalition forces have killed an Afghan soldier suspected of killing an Australian serviceman.
Stephen Smith says the Afghani soldier was killed in a joint operation by special forces troops.
Lance Corporal Andrew Jones, an Army cook, was shot four times by a soldier, named as Shafied Ullah, as he was walking in front of his accommodation near Tarin Kowt late last month. He died shortly after being shot, the ABC reports.
Ullah was fired at by another Afghan serviceman as he fled but the shot missed.
The ABC reports Mr Smith said on Monday Ullah was killed during a joint operation between US special forces and Afghan troops near his home village in the Khowst province of eastern Afghanistan.
He says there was a "limited Australian involvement" in the operation but he would not go into detail.
The Minister says Ullah's brother, who was with him when he was killed, has been detained and is being interrogated.
