Water rationing off in northern Cook Islands

5:45 am on 20 October 2011

Water rationing in the northern group of the Cook Islands has stopped after rain at the weekend.

However, the government is still warning that water has to be conserved, as only limited rainfall is forecast in the next two to three months.

Despite the rain, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Planning says water levels across the country are concerning.

It says low water levels are affecting coconut trees, which are a major food source there.
