Bombing of refugee camp blamed on Sudan

11:43 am on 11 November 2011

Officials in South Sudan have accused the Republic of Sudan of carrying out an aerial bombardment of a refugee camp in their territory.

South Sudan became independent in July, after decades of civil war.

A BBC reporter says the Yida camp in Unity State, which borders Sudan

was sustained two rounds of bombing, the second 10 minutes after the first.

People at the camp told him it was an Antonov plane, which dropped five bombs. Four exploded.

Pariang county commissioner Miabek Lang said 12 people had been killed and and 20 wounded. He said the death toll could rise.

The Sudanese military has denied the claims.
