Eight people were killed in gun fights and an explosion in the southern city of Taraz in Kazakhstan on Saturday morning.
Four members of the security forces, a police officer and two civilians are among the dead.
The BBC reports the incident began with a double shooting followed by a raid on a gun store and more shootings.
Explosives were detonated when police tried to disarm the suspect. He and an officer were killed.
There has been a series of bombings in Kazakhstan recently.
