A reasonably quiet start is reported to the annual Schoolies celebrations on the Gold Coast in Queensland.
An advisory group says it appears school leavers staggered their arrivals into Surfers Paradise on Saturday.
Police say there were no major incidents during the first night.
The ABC reports arrest figures were the same as those recorded on the first Saturday night last year.
Schoolies officially runs until Friday night.
