Widespread flooding in Queensland

11:11 pm on 24 January 2012

Homes are being evacuated north of Brisbane on Tuesday as widespread torrential rain causes flooding across south-east Queensland.

Hundreds of millimetres have been dumped across the state capital and the Gold and Sunshine coasts, flooding homes and causing chaos on roads, the ABC reports.

Cars were seen floating on some streets in the inner-city.

Power was cut to nearly 10,000 homes and businesses across the south-east.

The Bureau of Meteorology says flooding could worsen in some areas, with wet weather forecast for the rest of the week.
