Tear gas fired at protesters in Bahrain

1:24 pm on 12 February 2012

Police in Bahrain have fired teargas and stun grenades to stop protesters trying to march towards the roundabout at the centre of last year's failed pro-democracy uprising.

Groups of several hundred had gathered at different points around Manama on Saturday.

Bahraini forces crushed the pro-democracy movement on 14 February last year, led by the mainly Shi-ite majority, with help from Gulf states including Saudi Arabia, Reuters reports.

Activists say at least two people have died in police custody in the past month, taking the total dead since the failed rising past 60.
