Sailor confident he'll bring crew back safely this time

Updated at 3:45 pm on 23 February 2012

Norwegian adventurer Jarle Andhoy says he is confident he can bring his yacht crew back safely this time from an unauthorised voyage to Antarctica.

Mr Andhoy told Radio New Zealand News on Wednesday that the crew of the yacht Nilaya has paid tribute to the three men who died when his previous yacht Berserk disappeared a year ago in a storm.

He said he searched the area, but failed to find any wreckage.

The Nilaya is currently near Beaufort Island. Two more sites will be searched for debris and equipment before the Nilaya heads out of the Ross Sea.

Mr Andhoy said the ice conditions are still favourable and the most important thing in any expedition is to bring the crew home safely.
