Auckland City Council has held its final meeting after 138 years.
Six of the council's 19 members are not seeking re-election to the new Auckland Council.
They each gave a short valedictory speech at the meeting on Thursday night.
Mayor John Banks also thanked council staff for their work and each councillor.
Earlier in the week in Takapuna, five community boards gave their farewell addresses at the last meeting of North Shore City Council.
Other councils will hold their final meetings over the coming fortnight.
The Auckland Council comes into being on 1 November, following a merger of eight existing councils.
