NZ visas stolen from high commission in Fiji

A report from Fiji says visas have been stolen from the New Zealand High Commission in Suva.

The theft took place in 1999 but the matter only came to light last week when an Indo-Fijian woman attempting to enter New Zealand was turned back at Auckland airport.

This was after immigration officers at Auckland found that the number on her visa was not among those issued by their office in Suva.

A check showed that 50 consecutively numbered visas were stolen.

Police are warning Fiji nationals not to obtain visas from dubious sources.
