The Solomon Islands disaster authorities plan to begin distributing emergency supplies of rice to people on Guadalcanal's weathercoast today.
The National Disaster Council says a vessel was hired to ship more than 50 tonnes of rice after a donation from Taiwan.
The Council's director, Lotti Yates, says other supplies, such as household goods and seeds to replant gardens have already been distributed by the Solomon Islands Red Cross.
