Solomon Islands police withholds pay to officers failing to report for duty

The Solomon Islands police commissioner, William Morrell, has begun withholding the pay of police officers who have failed to report for duty.

Senior officers say so far ten officers had their pay frozen for not turning up to work at their allocated stations.

Commissioner Morrell took the step after a recent tour of provincial stations where he found that officers appeared to be staying away from work without a valid reason.

His deputy, John Homelo, says pays will be reinstated once the officers return to their jobs.
