Vanuatu act against misuse of government cars

10:54 am on 7 May 2003

Vanuatu's public service commission and police have seized government vehicles which they say are being misused by public employees.

The Commission's Deputy secretary, Bill Willie, says some of the cars seized belong to ministerial directors general and departmental heads.

He says the commission is drawing up plans to sell some of the cars to cut fuel costs.

Mr Willie says the government has shown that it cannot manage the use of its cars effectively.
