All public sector unions in Solomon Islands are due to meet in the capital, Honiara today to consider a nationwide strike.
A spokesman for the Public Sector Employee's Union, Clement Waiwori, said the decision follows a rejection by the Prime Minister, Sir Allan Kemakeza, of an award for salary increases and cost of living adjustment allowances for members.
The Solomon Island Broadcasting Service quotes Mr Waiwori as saying that Sir Allan's refusal to endorse the award had disrupted festive season plans for union members who could no longer afford to travel
