Papua New Guinea authorities have seized six high-powered weapons at Port Moresby's Jacksons Airport.

The National newspaper reports that the weapons are believed to have been stolen from the armoury at the Defence Force's Murray Barracks in Port Moresby.

Three M16 guns are still missing after they were stolen in 2002 during an exercise to evict retrenched soldiers from the Murray Barracks.

Another M16 gun went missing from the Quarter Store at the Barracks in November 2003.
