US Republican party put forward candidate for American Samoa congress race

The United States Republican Party of American Samoa has selected Aumua Amata Coleman as their candidate for this year's congressional race in Pago Pago.

Aumua, the daughter of the late former governor of American Samoa, Peter Tali Coleman, had ran a couple of times in the past years for the same post but she and others had been unsuccessful against incumbent Faleomavaega Eni Hunkin.

Congressman Faleomavaega said he will seek re-election this year and hopes that more candidates put their names on the ballot.

Meanwhile, the executive director of the government-owned American Samoa Power Authority, Utu A. Malae, has denied persisting rumours that he will resign from the post to run for the 2004 governor's race.

Malae says he is not interested in running for political office, either as a candidate for governor or delegate to congress.
