31 electoral lists have been registered in New Caledonia for the provincial elections due to be held on May the 9th.

This is an increase of eight since the first election under the Noumea Accord five years ago and reflects growing disunity among the main blocs.

14 lists have been drawn up for the southern province, nine for the northern province and eight for the Loyalty Islands province.

In the pro-independence camp, the FLNKS will run with a coalition of three parties, with the Caledonian Union choosing its own ticket.

The anti-independence camp will see the Rassemblement compete against the group, A Future Together made up of dissidents and the Alliance.
