Foreign Minister Phil Goff, has indicated that Dame Sylvia Cartwright will represent New Zealand, at Ratu Sir Kamisese Mara's funeral in Suva next week.
Dame Sylvia will join more than 200,000 expected at the biggest funeral in Fiji's history. The venue has also been shifted from a cathedral in Suva to Albert Park to accommodate the numbers.
Mr Goff says it's not known at this stage who else will be going from New Zealand.
"My understanding is that our Governor-General, Dame Sylvia Cartwright, will be attending that, and I'm sure it'll be a huge event, for their founding father to have passed away, and in remembrance of the things he contributed to their country."
Meanwhile, it's been confirmed Ratu Sir Kamisese Mara's funeral will be televised live within Fiji.
