The French Polynesian president, Oscar Temaru, says he is more than satisfied with his 12-day visit to Europe.
Speaking on his return to Tahiti, Mr Temaru said development plans need to be drawn up to renew a 10-year law drawn up in 1994 on French assistance because it expires at the end of this year.
He also says he was told by a member of the French constitutional council, Pierre Mazot, that in 20 to 30 years, French Polynesia, New Caledonia, Martinique and Guadeloupe will be independent.
Mr Temaru says in talks with the Chinese ambassador to France he was told that French Polynesia is set to be given approved status as an official Chinese tourist destination.
He told the Tahitipresse news agency that France wants its Pacific territories to adopt the euro as their new currency but he says this will be a difficult process.
