One person hurt in French Polynesian plane incident

10:44 am on 27 July 2004

An Air Tahiti plane has overshot the runway when it landed in French Polynesia's Marquesas islands.

One of the 11 people on board was injured when the Twin Otter ran off the runway when it landed on Ua Pou.

The plane was on a regular interisland service when the incident occurred.

Because of the limits imposed by the terrain, the runway is built on a slope to allow for rapid take-off and to slow landing aircraft.
