Papua New Guinea police have found one of their senior officers assisting a gaming machine operator in a suburb of the capital, Port Moresby.

The Post-Courier newspaper reports that the officer was discovered when members of an inter-government taskforce raided a property where illegal horseracing machines were being operated.

The National Capital District police commander is quoted as saying the officer will be dealt with.

The commander also says raid and other associated operations led to the identification of some 30 Chinese as illegal aliens.

The raids followed the elapse of a thirty-six hour deadline to operators to close down their gaming activities.
