The Solomon Islands Commissioner for Inland Revenue is to appear in court today to face a series of charges linked to abuse of office.

The commissioner, Alfred Pohe was arrested and charged following an investigation by Solomons police and the Regional Assistance Mission.

Dorothy Wickham reports from Honiara.

"Mr Pohe is expected to face 87 charges in relation to abuse of office. Police estimate the tax exemptions are worth about 950-thousand Solomons dollars in revenue to the Solomon Islands government. Police say they have been carrying out forensic audits into government accounts since last year."
