A Papua New Guinea company has won an award from the American company Starbucks for producing a rare and premium coffee.

Kigabah Estate in the Western Highlands Province is a nationally-owned coffee company.

The National newspaper reports the company has won a community development grant, and its coffee will be promoted throughout its 9,000 Starbucks stores worldwide.

Kigabah's managing director and owner, William Gardner says the achievement shows its operation model is a successful one.

Mr Gardner says winning the award has made all their efforts worthwhile.
