The Solomon Islands Prime Minister, Sir Allan Kemakeza, is still holding discussions over the political fate of the Police Minister, Michael Maina.

Maina appeared in court last week on one charge of theft relating to an alleged overpayment of more than 150 thousand U.S. dollars into a company account.

The investigation that led to the charge was carried out by the Corruption Targeting Team, a joint operation involving the Regional Assistance Mission and the Solomon Islands police.

A spokesman for the government, Johnson Honimae, says the Prime Minister wants to undertake widespread consultation before making a decision over the Police Minister's future.
