Suspended Fiji police officer disciplined

A suspended Fiji police officer who wrote to President Iloilo alleging collusion between some top police officers and the directors of companies involved in the 13-million US dollar agriculture ministry scam has been disciplined.

The Daily Post reports that Inspector Nasir Ali has been has been convicted by the Police Tribunal for breaching the Fiji Police Act by being disrespectful to the police commissioner, Andrew Hughes.

The police spokeswoman, Unaisi Vuniwaqa, has confirmed that the Police Tribunal has dealt with one of the 14 charges against Inspector Ali.

However, in a statement, Inspector Ali says the witness statements used by the Police Tribunal had been fabricated by the officers he had complained about.

Inspector Ali also says the Tribunal refused to summon and examine Mr Hughes as well as other officers and civil witnesses to show that the charges have been fabricated.

Inspector Ali was removed as head of the team investigating the agriculture ministry scam late last year and suspended when he refused to take up another posting.
