Air Fiji to go regional

9:22 am on 26 August 2005

Domestic airline Air Fiji is forming alliances to expand its services in the South Pacific region.

The move follows international carrier Air Pacific's intention to re-enter the Fiji domestic market.

The Fiji Times quotes Air Fiji's chief executive Sialeni Vuataki as saying expansion into the region is being pursued to increase the revenue base because earnings from the domestic market are limited.

Air Fiji which is majority owned by the Tuvalau government already provides services to Tuvalu.

Mr Sialeni says a joint venture has been formed with Tonga to give Air Fiji the chance to provide services using Tonga's landing rights in other countries.

He says Air Fiji is also developing joint ventures with Vanuatu and Solomon Islands.
