The Regional Assistance Mission in Solomon Islands, or RAMSI, says enquiries are continuing into last Friday's armed robbery on the island of Ovau which is on the sea border with the Papua New Guinea province of Bougainville.

RAMSI says Solomons police and members of the foreign police contingent went to the island last Friday following the robbery.

RAMSI gave no details about the size of the contingent.

This follows reports that 30 armed police were sent to Ovau amid security concerns linked to the trial in Honiara of a former commander of the Bougainville Revolutionary Army who has been charged with murder.

RAMSI had no comment on possible concerns of an incursion of militants from Bougainville onto Ovau which had been the scene of crossborder raids from PNG during the Bougainville conflict.
