The goldmine on Lihir Island in Papua New Guinea will stay shut until at least the end of the month, after a landslide killed two of its workers.
The landslide cut the road between the island's township and the mine, and ruptured the water pipeline that supplies the mine processing plant.
One of the workers was in the direct path of the landslide and the other was in a boat that capsized as a result of the wave produced when the hillside collapsed into the sea.
The company says all efforts are being made to speed up the recovery, and full production at the processing plant is expected to resume in the first week of November.
