The 4th Pacific Community Conference has opened in Palau as the SPC is to choose a successor to the organisation's head, Lourdes Pangelinan of Guam, whose term ends in January.

The meeting was addressed by Palau's President, Tommy Remengesau, who called on delegates to consider how leaders can position their countries and territories to engage more effectively with each other and with the international community.

Mr Remengesau paid tribute to the vision and leadership of Ms Pangelinan in guiding the organisation.

The Palau conference will also consider the recommendations presented by the Committee of Representatives of Governments and Administrations, including the SPC Corporate Review and regional strategies such as the Pacific Plan.
