Talks set to resume in bid to end New Caledonia strike

7:20 am on 19 November 2005

Negotiations between unionised workers and the SLN nickel company in New Caledonia have so far failed to end five days of strike action.

Striking workers have blocked access to the territory's only nickel smelter at Doniambo and have disrupted traffic in Noumea, to protest against the recent dismissal of two co-workers.

Representatives of the CSTNC union and the company are set to meet again at the French High Commission this morning.
