9:40 am on 12 April 2006

The Attorney General's Office in American Samoa has filed drug charges against three high school students from the western district area who were allegedly caught smoking marijuana on campus late last week.

The Samoa News reports that the students - two aged 15 and the other 17 - are scheduled to appear in District Court tomorrow.

All three will be charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance.

The newspaper quotes unnamed sources as saying that a teacher found the three students allegedly smoking a marijuana joint.

The teacher took the joint but somehow misplaced it.

However, sources say four other marijuana joints were found on one of the students.

The students are currently in the custody of their parents.
