Region's timber sawmilling industry under review in Solomon Islands

9:02 am on 27 July 2006

A review to look into the Timber Sawmilling Industry in the Pacific is being carried out in Solomon Islands in a week-long study.

The study is jointly funded by the Secretariat of the Pacific Community and the Australian National University and will look into the success and difficulties facing the industry in the country.

A local consultant with the review team, Felix Narasia, says the study is very important for Solomon Islands because in six years the country will run out of logs to export.

Mr Narasia says the aim of the review is to strengthen the Timber Sawmilling Industry.
