Samoa Commision of Inquiry to review Village Fono Act

10:21 am on 2 August 2006

The Samoa government has appointed a Commission of Inquiry to review the Village Fono Act and its impact on decisions handed down by the Lands and Titles Court.

SBC TV reports that one of the Commission's objectives is to find common ground between the two for their decisions to be respected.

Another is to eliminate conflicts between decisions issued by the Lands and Titles Court and traditional leaders.

The Commission has three months to report back to cabinet

The former Minister of Police and Prisons was appointed last week to head the commission after another former government minister who was chairman stepped down because of ill health
