Air New Zealand staff working in the Cook Islands have been told they will not be affected by changes being proposed for groundhandling staff in New Zealand.

The Cook Islands Herald quotes Air New Zealand's Cook Islands manager, David Bridge, as saying it's business as usual in the Cook Islands.

The airline is the main international air service provider for Cook Islands and has 66 staff at Rarotonga International Airport.

They look after flights to and from Auckland, Christchurch, Los Angeles, Papeete and Nadi.

There had been concerns locally after a specialist company Swissport International was named preferred bidder for potential outsourcing of groundhandling in New Zealand.
