A 61-year-old Australian Vietnam War veteran accused of conspiring to assassinate the Solomons Island Prime Minister Mannaseh Sogavare has had all charges against him dropped.

Bill Johnson appeared in the Honiara Magistrates Court where the Director of Public Prosecutions, Ronald Bei Talasasa, applied to have the charges withdrawn on the basis that police witness statements had been changed and the accusations could not be substantiated.

He spent a week in jail in Honiara after being arrested on January the 30th over the alleged plot but was released on bail when Mr Bei Talasasa warned in court about police concocting stories.

Mr Johnson says he will organise the paperwork to return to live in Australia following his ordeal.
