Solomon Islands establishes ministry for women, youth and children

The Solomons government has established a new ministry to promote women, youth and children's affairs as part of moves to address national development.

The Prime Minister's Office says that since taking office the government has seen the need to address the problems of women and youth.

The chief of staff , Dr Judson Leafasia, says the announcement of the new ministry is both timely and appropriate.

He said the minister for the new ministry would be announced soon.

Dr Leafasia says in another development, the ministry of police and national security and the ministry of justice and legal affairs had been amalgamated to become the Ministry of Police, National Security, Justice and Legal Affairs.
