American Samoa senate leader accepts Samoa permit levy

4:06 pm on 15 March 2007

The president of the American Samoan Senate, Lolo Letalu Moliga, says if people are not happy about the 30 US dollar fee for a permit to visit Samoa, they should not travel there.

Lolo says Samoa is a sovereign nation and it is governed by its own laws as American Samoa has its own laws.

He says American Samoa cannot interfere with a government policy that the leaders of Samoa have approved.

He says if the charge hurts Samoa's economy, Samoa pays the consequences.

The Senate leader also says it is his feeling that Samoa is countering the territory's immigration fees.
