American Samoa's Governor ,Togiola Tulafono, has petitioned the US Department of Transportation to reconsider American Samoa's Essential Air Services requirements and to order Hawaiian Air to operate a fourth weekly flight between Honolulu and Pago Pago during the summer.

The governor has also asked the department to consider the establishment of a special committee to look at appropriate airfares and profitability for airlines.

The governor says it has been impossible for people to make a reservation to Honolulu form the middle of May for travel during the month of June.

All three weekly flights in June by Hawaiian Airs are regularly sold out by mid May and travelers are told that they will have to wait until the following July to get seats.

He says although Hawaiian Air is well aware of the shortfall in available seats, it has refused to provide additional flights.
