6:10 am on 28 May 2007

The Solomon Islands Prime Minister, Manasseh Sogavare, has returned home after spending two weeks in Taiwan.

Mr Sogavare arrived home just in time to officiate as head of the political government at the state funeral ceremony in honour of the late Bartholomew Ulufa'alu.

The Prime Minister's ten-member delegation to Taiwan included two government Ministers.

The Solomon Islands Broadcasting Corporation says it is understood, Mr Sogavare had raised the prospect of recruiting unskilled labourers from Solomon islands to work in Taiwan with the Taipei Government.

While in Taiwan Mr Sogavare was awarded Taiwan's highest honorary award, the Star of Taiwan.
