Former Fiji Supervisor of Elections to seek judicial review of his sacking

Fiji's former supervisor of elections, who was sacked soon after the military takeover last December, is taking President Iloilo to court over his termination.

Semesa Karavaki's action comes just as the Constitutional Offices Commission is finalisng the processes to appoint a new supervisor of elections.

Mr Karavaki, a lawyer by profession, says he will file an application for a judicial review in a matter of days.

He says he wants the High Court to rule on the legality of the actions taken by President Iloilo and the new post-coup Constitutional Services Commission.

Fiji law requires the supervisor of elections to be a qualified lawyer and the commission has received very few applications for the position despite advertising it twice.
