Samoa's broadcasting minister says the state-owned SBC television and radio stations are expected to be privatised next month.

Safuneitu'uga Pa'aga Neri has told the Samoa Observer newspaper that a committee is processing the expressions of interest that will be shortlisted for the final bids.

A source says seven companies including two from overseas have shown interest in buying the public broadcaster.

Nearly 40 employees of the SBC TV and radio stations have opted for redundancy; but the finance ministry has yet to determine their final pay package.

Two years ago, the government decided to privatise the public broadcaster.
