11:28 am on 3 December 2007

Police are not releasing any futher details over the case of Assistant Police Commissioner Crime, Nasir Ali, who has reportedly been told to go on leave pending investigations against him.

The Deputy Commissioner of Police, Eroni Antonio, had earlier told The Fiji Times that Mr Ali's leave had nothing to do with the investigations against him.

Earlier this month Mr Antonio said investigations into a complaint lodged by a police officer against Mr Ali had started.

A Nabua-based special constable has lodged the complaint against Mr Ali for allegedly detaining him for 39 hours at the Central Police Station in early November.

The Police Commissioner, Esala Teleni, said earlier Mr Ali was on special duties to allow the police to carry out investigations into complaints levelled against him.
